Incendium Network Commander

In Brief

Incendium Network Commander works with a stand-alone operating system based on the Linux v3.3.5 kernel, with a quick and simple installation and an easy to use interface.

The Network Commander has a multitude of supported network interfaces, including the latest 13 Gigabit ethernet cards, 802.11a/b/g/n wireless cards, SFP modules and 3G/LTE modems.

It supports various methods of configuration – local access with keyboard and monitor, serial console with a terminal application, Telnet and secure SSH access over networks, a custom GUI configuration tool,  a powerful Web based configuration interface and an API programming interface for building your own control application.

Network Commander features a powerful, yet easy to learn command- line configuration interface with integrated scripting capabilities.

The HotSpot Gateway enables providing of public network access for clients using wireless or wired network connections. The user can be presented a login screen when first opening his web browser. Once a login and password is provided, the user will be allowed internet access.

Extensive user management is possible by making different user profiles, each of which can allow certain uptime, upload and download speed limitation, transfer amount limitation and more.

Enforcement of the different limits can be tied to specific time frames or other external conditions.

PAYMENT GATEWAY

The Network Commander can integrate with 2 payment gateways, Paypal and Authorize.net. It creates a user database stored locally on the Network Commander containing the user credentials and packages bought. No credit card information is stored locally and all transactions are fully encrypted. Authorize.net accepts all major credit cards: Visa®, MasterCard®, American Express®, Discover®, Diner’s Club, JCB)

Both payment methods can be managed in the current Network Commander and no further HW is needed. This setup will give the ability to:

  • sell up-time packages e.g. 30 min, 60 min etc.
  • have a free “trial” account with limited up-time and limited bandwidth
  • have a free package with limited bandwidth

The Network Commander will generate a full insight on all transactions and will  auto-generate a xml-file to Accounting and the IT-department on a daily/hourly basis.

  • vouchers can in addition be part of this solution
  • “frequent user” category can be added with special prices for commuters

Scenario description

When a PAX tries to establish connection via wifi on the ship the Network Commander directs the user to an html registration page hosted on the Network Commander. The customer registers with username/password and will choose the kind of connection he/she desires:

  • Paid access
  • 5-10 minutes free trial access (limited bandwidth)

Network Commander then uses the PAX decision to determine which user category they belong to and handles redirection to the payment gateway for the customers who chooses paid access.

Since the Network Commander uses HTML pages for registration the sign-up page can be programmed in a responsive design so it automatically adapts to any device trying to connect and customized html templates can be added for internal design and branding.
